Le Marais

Still recovering from our epic trip to Versailles we decided to have a chill day exploring the nearby Marais neighborhood. We walked across the river through the Île Saint-Louis, stopping at a cute little shop that had delicious cookies, chocolates and caramels. From there we shopped along the main street in Le Marais, picked up some lunch from a boulangerie and enjoyed it in the beautiful Place des Vosges.

I had a very delicious croissant stuffed with ham and cheese and then smothered in more cheese-yum! Because it was such a nice Saturday afternoon the Place des Vosges was very crowded. It was an interesting experience taking pictures because the square is symmetrical. Even looking at my pictures now it is difficult to tell from where in the square I took them!

Once we finished our lunch we headed to the funky Centre Pompidou to see some modern art and the museum’s cool view of the city. It was quite hot this day so we had a leisurely walk back to the Latin Quarter, stopping at Berthillion on our way home

Sunset on the Seine

Paris is a great walking city but it is far too large to walk everywhere. We decided we didn’t want to be stuck underground on the Metro so we took advantage of the Batobus commuter boat on the Seine to get around. The unlimited two day Batobus pass was one of the best decisions we made because instead of stressing about figuring out connecting trains on the Metro, each commute was transformed into a relaxing cruise down the river. Our first trip was a sunset cruise from Notre Dame to the Eiffel Tower and the views were spectacular! It certainly was not the quickest way to travel but by the time we made it to the Eiffel the sun had set and we got to see the Tower sparkle. Très incroyable! We finished the evening at a cute little cafe by the Champ des Mars where I had some delicious crepes. It doesn’t get much better than that

Mmmacarons!

From the Jardin des Plantes we took the Batobus to the Champs-Élysées, home of the fanciest Abercrombie & Fitch I have ever seen! We window-shopped our way to the Arc de Triomphe which was closed due to a strike that was unfortunately affecting many of the national museums and monuments. After the Arc we stopped at Ladurée for tea. I couldn’t resist dessert and had a very delicate dacquoise cake with crushed hazelnuts, praline, layer upon layer of thin milk chocolate and ganache, with a decadent chocolate Chantilly cream. C’est magnifique! Of course, I couldn’t leave Ladurée without a box of macarons. (Pro-tip: If you eat in one of the restaurants or at the bar you can just add the macarons to your bill. You don’t have to stand in the very long line!)

Once tea time was over we stopped by Musee de l`Orangerie. Even though this museum was technically closed due to the strike they kindly let us in to see Monet’s large Nymphéas installment. I’m so happy the French took such a laissez-faire approach to the strike because the Nymphéas were not to be missed. From there we walked through the Place de la Concorde on our way to the gorgeous department stores Printemps and Galleries Layfayette (where I bought more macarons!).

We realized we could make it to the Eiffel Tower for sunset so we jumped on our trusty Batobus from the Louvre and made our way to the Eiffel Tower. Before the trip we tried to book tickets to climb the Eiffel Tower and they had already sold out months in advance. The strike helped us out because the Tower wasn’t officially open but they were selling tickets to the second floor, no line. The catch was that we had to climb all 669 steps. The first few flights were pretty cool but once the novelty of being inside the structure of the Tower wore off it wasn’t my favorite (Pro-tip: take the elevator!). Once we finally made it, the view was pretty spectacular. Just when I was catching my breath I realized we had to crazily run back down all those stairs to make the last Batobus home. C’est la vie!

Reykjavik

When we decided on Icelandair for our trip to Paris we figured we should take advantage of adding an extended layover in Iceland to check it out. I am so glad we did because Iceland is a uniquely beautiful country. We stayed in downtown Reykjavik and were a short walk to the waterfront and Hallgrímskirkja.

While the weather was cold, the people were warm and had a quirky sense of humor that was evident in Reykjavik’s bright colors and funky street art.

I especially fell in love with the Harpa Concert Hall and Sólfar sculpture, both along Reykjavik harbor. The Icelandic May sunset was much later than my jet lagged self could handle but I’m happy I champed it out our last night because Reykjavik looked amazing in the fading light. It’s crazy that these sunset shots were taken around 10:30pm. By the time we made it back to our hotel to get some rest before our early morning flight it was after 11pm and still not completely dark. The strange light only added to the other-worldly Iceland experience.

Instagram Update: Iceland and Paris Preview

I just returned from an awesome vacation to Iceland and Paris and wanted to share a few of my Instagram shots from the trip. The two places couldn’t have been any more different but each was beautiful in its own way. Of course, I took a ton of photos and I can’t wait to share some of them on the Blog, so stay tuned! Fall in the Fells

After Dana and I took some yoga portraits last spring we both knew we wanted to take more in the fall surrounded by beautiful foliage. The Middlesex Fells reservation, with the pops of color and golden autumn light, was a perfect backdrop for these yoga shots.

Dana is the ultimate champ, too, agreeing to trudge through mud and sacrifice her favorite yoga pants to piles of pine needles and sap.

I’m glad she is because the end result was worth it!

Cali: Monterey & Big Sur

After Napa, we traveled down to Monterey. Our hotel was right off Cannery Row which is a fun street on the water made up of former sardine canneries turned shops and restaurants. There was a little park not too far from where we were staying which was populated by some adorable sea lions and a perfect spot for enjoying the sunset.

I still hadn’t adjusted to the time difference so I was also able to catch an amazing sunrise from Cannery Row too!

Before heading to Big Sur we checked out Pebble Beach and the majestic Lone Cyprus on the outrageously gorgeous 17 Mile Drive.

I am still thinking about the delicious cookies at the Big Sur Bakery and our visit to McWay Falls which was a total bucket list moment. I mean, a waterfall that goes into the ocean!! Big Sur was completely breathtaking, words really can’t do it justice….

Cali: San Francisco and Sausalito

I recently returned from an awesome trip to California! I went out for a bachelorette party in Napa and while we were there my friend Dana and I also explored San Francisco and Monterey/Big Sur. The West Coast is gorgeous so of course I couldn’t resist taking a ton of photos. Here are a few from the San Francisco/Sausalito portion of the trip.

We stayed in the Cow Hollow/Marina section of the city so we had great access to the water and that iconic bridge. After hitting all the touristy things like Fisherman’s Wharf, Ghiradelli Square, Lombard Street and riding the famous Cable Cars we watched the sun set over the Pacific at the Lands End lookout by some abandoned Roman style baths. Simply stunning!

On our last day we headed across the Golden Gate to Sausilito where we *may* have trespassed a little on a national park area closed due to the shut down (anything for the shot!).

San Francisco is such a great city but Sausalito was also an adorable surprise. Stay tuned for more photos from the trip…

Old Silver

I recently had the opportunity to go down to the Cape on a beautiful June day before the summer craziness ensnarls that area in crowds and traffic. I visited Old Silver Beach in Falmouth which given its soft white sand and warm water from the Bay is the closest to being in the Caribbean without leaving Massachusetts.

Of course I had to stay for the gorgeous views of the sunset. While sea grass totally grosses me out while I’m swimming, I couldn’t get enough of it in these shots. If anyone wants to shoot on a beach this summer, I’m in!

London

I recently returned from a quick trip to my beloved London. We really lucked out with some amazing spring weather, I never used my brolly once! The May flowers were in full bloom from the tulips in St. James’ Park to the primroses in St. John’s Wood and the greenery in Kensington Gardens.

On our walk back from a shopping trip to Harrods we stumbled upon the most gorgeous sunset in Hyde Park. I couldn’t stop snapping away…

No trip to London is ever long enough for me but we got a lot of good stuff in like the London Eye, Portobello Road Market, British Museum, Primrose Hill, Changing of the Guard, afternoon tea and lots and lots of shopping! Until next time, London…..
